8 Unions, Corporations Pay for Obama Inaugural

In a reversal of policy from four years ago, President Obama’s inauguration committee this year is accepting money from unions and corporations willing to pick up the tab for inauguration-related festivities.

UnionsObamaThe 2013 Presidential Inaugural Committee updated a list of “benefactors” on its website Friday night to include eight unions and several major corporations.

In 2009, inaugural planners banned corporate and union donations and still managed to raise $53 million — all from individual donors.

The money pays for some of the expensive extras for the swearing-in-ceremony, such as Jumbotrons on the Mall, as well as the children’s concert, private brunches, two inaugural balls and the star-studded slate of performers including Alicia Keys, Katy Perry, Stevie Wonder and Marc Antony.
