As Clay Waters has noted, Paul Krugman alleges that racist motives are at the heart of the town hall protests against ObamaCare.  On this evening’s Hardball, Cynthia Tucker of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution was willing to get specific, estimating that “45 to 65%” of the protesters are motivated by racism.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Put 100 of these people in a room. Strap them into gurneys.  Inject them with sodium pentathol. How many of them would say “I don’t like the idea of having a black president”? What percentage?
CYNTHIA TUCKER: Oh, I’m just guessing. This is just off the cuff. I think 45 to 65% of the people who appear at these groups are people who will never be comfortable with the idea of a black president.

    • The Problem I have with Using race and calling those who disagree as being racist deflects from the actual questions. I am a conservative, i was happy to see a black President finally, I did not want it to Be Barack Obama. Honestly I would have loved to have a conservative as the first black president. MLK said he wanted Black children and white children to go hand in hand… Not some unequal world that has preference. I understand that the Blacks in America had a difficult history. We have gone past so much of that, although racism still occurs, America has grown up. I live here in SC and have seen such great change. Lets celebrate the progress and work towards more. Lets not keep looking out our racist passed. Lets keep health care as a health care debate. It is too important to deflect by saying that those against health care are racist. There are so many more reasons why folks are against health care and being angry that we have a black president is quite far down the list. Racists Don’t have a political party.

  1. I am a racist but I’m not particularly against a black president. What I am against is being taxed in to the poor house.

  2. Health Care Concerns do not translate to Racism. Where is the correlation???????
This is yellow journalism with the attempt to stir up racism. Sad. Shame on you…………………….

  3. cynthia….I am white, female, 61 years old…Conservative, I dated a black man before I was married in the early 70’s …. why would you try to stir up racism? its all about health care cynthia. if I were your boss I would fire you… you do not deserve a job in journalism, your right up there with dan rather and thats not a good thing.

  4. Cynthia, it has nothing to do with Presidents Color, Its about ideology. Until you stop your continued Race Baiting as you have done for years in Atlanta, MLK dream will never come to fruition.
