As expected, Louisiana Senator David Vitter has won the GOP primary election.
The Republican Senator won on Saturday with 90 percent of the vote as less than 1 percent of precincts reporting.
Mr. Vitter was expected to the GOP primary election. Mr. Vitter’s competition was former state Supreme Court Justice Chet Traylor and Nick Accardo. Both of whom were receiving less than 10 percent at the time of publication.
The Republican incumbent continues to face a number of scandals, one in which the U.S. Senator was revealed to have solicited call girls.
On the Democratic side, the race for U.S. Senator is led by Democratic Congressman Charlie Melancon with 66 percent.
Mr. Melancon, the congressman from Louisiana’s 3rd District outside New Orleans, is the favorite in the Democratic Senate primary against Cary Deaton and Neeson Chauvin.
The state’s governor, Bobby Jindal, is not up for re-election until 2011.
