We thought it would be fun to look at the August 28 Glenn Beck Restoring Honor Rally crowd estimates from around the media and from political leaning. So Far we have estimates for 1000 to 500 thousand.
Just as you would think, the lower numbers come from the left and the higher numbers come from the right. If you are a moderate you probably have it about right.
So in no particular order here are the crowd estimates
An estimated 87,000 people attended a rally organized by talk-radio host and Fox News commentator Glenn Beck Saturday in Washington, according to a crowd estimate commissioned by CBS News. The company AirPhotosLive.com based the attendance on aerial pictures it took over the rally, which stretched from in front of the Lincoln Memorial along the Reflecting Pool to the Washington Monument. Beck and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin spoke at the rally.Beck, who predicted that at least 100,000 people would show up, opened his comments with a joke: “I have just gotten word from the media that there is over 1,000 people here today.”

In a demonstration of the overwhelming support of mainstream America for conservative principles, Glenn Beck’s ‘Restoring Honor’ rally at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. is drawing ‘hundreds of thousands,’ according to McClatchy Newspapers.
Early reports indicate that so large is the crowd that attendees were having difficulty hearing the speakers. A quick scan of mainstream news outlets that have done actual estimates this morning indicates that attendance at this point is between 300,000 and 500,000 people.
And attendees are still arriving at the rally, which began some 90 minutes ago.

AP- Beck’s Restoring Honor Rally: Thousands Expected To Attend, Civil Rights Leaders Protest Event
WASHINGTON — Conservative commentator Glenn Beck and tea party champion Sarah Palin appealed Saturday to a vast, predominantly white crowd on the National Mall to help restore traditional American values and honor Martin Luther King’s message. Civil rights leaders who accused the group of hijacking King’s legacy held their own rally and march.
While Beck billed his event as nonpolitical, conservative activists said their show of strength was a clear sign that they can swing elections because much of the country is angry with what many voters call an out-of-touch Washington.

Massive crowd for Restore Honor Rally
Without question, the rally sponsored by Glenn Beck today in front of the Lincoln Memorial drew a massive crowd. Although there already are dueling estimates and will be more, the lowball figures concede well into the tens of thousands, with six figures a possibility. Carrie Dunn of left wing MSNBC even concedes:
Today’s rally was indisputably huge. NBC’s Domenico Montanaro noted one park service official’s estimate of over 300,000 but please note that the park service no longer provides “official” estimates.
Tens of thousands? Certainly. One hundred thousand? Perhaps. Half a million? No one can really say for sure.Crowds packed the area around the Reflecting Pool, standing shoulder-to-shoulder under the canopy of trees, as they strained to see the half a dozen big-screen monitors near the Lincoln Memorial. Families huddled around the World War II Memorial fountain, dipping their feet in the water to stay cool under the August sun. And they laid out camping chairs and sun umbrellas, filling the large grassy area between the memorial and the Washington Monument.

From msnbc.com’s Carrie Dann:
Washington DC is buzzing this morning, especially around the Lincoln Memorial, site of Glenn Beck’s Restoring Honor rally. Speakers at the event include Sarah Palin and St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa.
The rally has attracted tens of thousands (or many more according to one estimate), including many tea party-type supporters, a group we profiled here yesterday, What message are attendees trying to send and what are they expecting to hear and achieve with today’s rally? Carrie Dann is on the Mall to find out. That and more from the Mall in a running update below:
“The cocoon”: Joe, who declined to give his last name, is a groundskeeper from Lancaster, Pa. He says attendees are here to send a message about what he calls the “the cocoon” of D.C., where lawmakers have “no idea what’s really going on out there.” He says his wife has been looking for work for 18 months.
He stands by Beck’s message that today isn’t about politics.

Media Matters Rounds Up Glenn Beck’s Most Racist Moments
As the nation marks the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin have taken to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to, as they put it, restore our nation’s honor. The Washington Post reports that “an overwhelmingly white crowd of tens of thousands” turned out for the event, which Beck has described as “a moment that you’ll never be able to paint people as haters, racists, none of it. This is a moment, quite honestly, that I think we reclaim the civil rights movement. It has been so distorted and so turned upside down. It is an abomination.”
In her own remarks this morning, the Post reports, Palin declared:
“We must not fundamentally transform America, as some would want,” Palin said. “We must restore America and restore her honor.”
“Here today, at the crossroads of our history, may this day be the change point,” Palin said. “Look around you. You’re not alone. You are Americans! You have the same steel spine and the moral courage of Washington and Lincoln and Martin Luther King. It is in you. It will sustain you as it sustained them.”
On a day of remembrance, it seems Beck and Palin have forgotten why some aren’t able to envision them as a part of King’s dream. Luckily, Media Matters hasn’t, and the group has managed to track some of the best of Beck’s race-baiting:
