Obama Imposes Gun Control Via Executive Order

The President is using executive Order to require gun shops to report sales of long guns to the Fed.  The President wants to slow down guns getting into Mexico.  Let me help the President out a bit.. how many Federal officers have been killed by guns bought in the United States?  Now how many Federal officers have been killed by Operation Gunwalker?  Maybe we can start by not allowing our own Feral agents to get guns in the hands of Criminals in Mexico.

Early in Obama’s campaign for presidency, his campaign team admitted his strong opposition to the second amendment by stating on his website that he intends to impose so-called “assault weapon” bands and other forms of “gun control” when he becomes president. This post was quickly scrubbed from the website after feeling he heat from freedom loving Americans, but those of us who were watching the election closely were not fooled. We knew that Obama was not a fan of the second amendment (or any other part of the constitution for that matter).

After three years in office Obama has avoided the gun control issue knowing it will start a fire he doesn’t want to fight before attempting to be re-elected for a second term. Today, Obama has made a bold move by implementing gun control through an executive order.

The Obama administration is implementing new restrictions on the sale of certain weapons in border states, and increasing the penalties for violating certain firearms laws.

U.S. Border Gun Stores Required to Alert Authorities After Some Arms Sales – Bloomberg

Gun sellers in states on the U.S.- Mexico border will have to report to the federal government if a customer buys two or more semiautomatic rifles over five days that are greater than .22 caliber and include a detachable magazine.

The regulation will improve the government’s ability to detect illegal weapons-trafficking networks that divert firearms to criminals, said Deputy Attorney General James Cole in a statement today.

“The international expansion and increased violence of transnational criminal networks pose a significant threat to the United States,” Cole said. The requirement will help “confront the problem of illegal gun trafficking into Mexico and along the Southwest border.”

The reporting requirement, part of a one-year-pilot program, will affect about 8,500 gun sellers in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, said a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives official, who spoke on condition of anonymity and wasn’t authorized to discuss the matter. They will be required to report the purchases to the ATF within 24 hours, the official said.

The ATF has been facing congressional criticism over an operation called Fast and Furious that allowed guns to be illegally purchased in the U.S. The operation was an effort by the U.S. to track illegal shipments to Mexico and link the guns to Mexican drug cartels.

Senator Charles Grassley, an Iowa Republican who has been investigating the ATF operation, criticized the reporting requirement.
