Harry Morgan, the prolific character actor best known for playing the acerbic but kindly Colonel Potter in the long-running television series “M*A*S*H,” died on Wednesday morning at his home in Los Angeles. He was 96. His son Charles confirmed his death, saying Mr. Morgan had been treated for pneumonia recently.
A personal note for the Editor: MASH was among the influential shows that helped my choice of Careers. In 1987, I joined the United States Army Medical Corps. My military occupational specialty was in Psychiatry. My desire to work with those suffering from the scares of war came from what I had learned from Programs like MASH and others.
I was often compared to the Chaplin and the Psychiatrist as I also had religious training. Very few could compare to such characters, but the show touched my life as I am sure it touched yours.
