Obama: GSA lavish spending is Bush’s Fault

A recent FoxNews.com story is titled “White House pushing blame on Bush administration for GSA debacle“.

Here is how the story begins:

The Obama administration is responding to the recent report that shows a federal agency spent more that $800,000 on a lavish conference near Las Vegas by putting some of the blame on the Bush administration.

“At least we have taken, bold, swift forceful action to hold those responsible accountable and put in place protections to make sure  this never happened again,” a White House official told Fox News.

The story includes additional spin from the Obama Administration:

The administration also argued Friday night that the cost of the Western Regional Conference increased sharply under the Bush White House — from $93,000  in 2004 to $323,855 in 2006 to $655,025 in 2008, then $840,616 in 2010, or just  28 percent under Obama.

Granted, the General Services Administration was guilty of lavish spending during the Bush years, but that fact is not an excuse for allowing such lavish spending to continue during the Obama years. We can skewer Bush for what happened during his watch, but we also can skewer Obama for what happened during his watch. Does anyone really believe that the public would have known what was going on in the GSA if that one GSA employee hadn’t made that video mocking what he and other GSA employees were doing with federal tax dollars?

What Obama’s people in the White House fail to understand is that they knew back in May of 2010 what the GSA employees did , but nothing was done about it until that mocking video became public knowledge this year. They can’t blame Bush for their failure to act as soon as they knew.
