Congratulations are in order for Mary Landrieu, Kay Hagan, Mark Pryor, Mark Begich, Gary Peters, Bruce Braley, Jeanne Shaheen and Jeff Merkley. Each of these Democrats have won the PolitiFact “Lie of the Year” contest with their blatantly dishonest claim that, ‘If you like your health care plan, you can keep it.’ That’s an amazing accomplishment for both ObamaCare and their reelection bids. Congratulations… or something.
The fact is that people losing care and doctors that they like was always part of the plan. In order for ObamaCare to provide coverage for the very sick and subsidize coverage for those currently without it, young, healthy Americans would be forced to buy coverage and middle-class families and workers forced to pay more for plans with additional coverage (that they often didn’t need or want). Allahpundit explained it best on Hot Air, “If you like your plan, you can keep it had to be a lie or else ObamaCare would have no chance of working.”
So what does this mean politically for 2014? Democrats’ plummeting polls are about far more than just the unpopular law itself. It’s bigger than ObamaCare. Democratic Senators and Members of Congress who supported ObamaCare and repeatedly made promises that they knew couldn’t be kept have a credibility crisis with voters that isn’t going away. Those same Democrats who’ve repeatedly made promises that were false now claim they want to fix ObamaCare… but how can anyone trust them? TRUST & CREDIBILITY are going to be huge themes for 2014.
Democrats on the ballot in 2014 are finally getting the recognition and notoriety they deserve for their years of repeatedly deceiving voters about ObamaCare. But this is just one of their many lies that will be exposed. As Guy Benson dutifully pointed out, the early frontrunner for the 2014 lie of the year has to be ‘If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor,” right? Millions of Americans are about to find out that Democrat promise was also a blatant lie come January.
