CNN's Rick Sanchez fired after statement about Jews

CNN newscaster Rich Sanchez has been fired. The news comes one day after Sanchez appeared on Pete Dominick’s Sirius radio show, where he called “The Daily Show’s” John Stewart a “bigot” (he later amended the term to “prejudicial”) and suggested that “everybody who runs CNN” was Jewish.

Today, CNN released a statement noting that “Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.”
CNN did not disclose whether Sanchez’s comments were cause for letting him go. But the radio interview was just the latest in a history of incendiary quotes from the newscaster, who has gotten into trouble for calling Obama a “cotton-pickin’ president,” misquoting Rush Limbaugh, and not understanding the metric system.

The formal announcement is shockingly brief — which, actually, speaks volumes.
Monday’s “Daily Show” should be a very special episode indeed, my friends.

CNN released this statement today:
“Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.”

I assume everyone already knows why, but if you missed Ed’s post this morning, read it now. I figured they’d keep Sanchez off the air today and then roll him back out on Monday, formal apology in hand. Instead, nothing but a “kthxbai” press release and a pink slip. Wowza. He’ll be remembered as a uniter, bringing left and right together in shared amazement at his lunkheadedness. At least, though, we finally have an answer to the question of what it takes to disqualify you from working at CNN. It’s an awfully high bar, but darned if he didn’t clear it.

  1. Oh irony of irony. He whines that he has been discriminated against; the Jews give him the heave ho, proving that he could only be fired because he is not a Jew; the Jews now have to shoulder this burden of guilt and feel oppressed because Rick Sanchez put them into a bad position since they became the victim of guilt force on them by the need to fire him. He can now run a Sabbath elevator in Manhattan.
